Here are some ideas for becoming a more mindful dresser:
Choose comfortable and stylish clothing. Buy soft, comfy fabrics like cotton and linen, rather than stiff, starchy materials; choose wool pants rather than spandex or tight jeans, short skirts, or hosiery. Wear clothing that feels comfortable. Don’t buy anything that is tight on you.
Identify one outfit that you look really good in. Save this outfit to wear on the days when you are highly vulnerable to mindless eating or when you feel uncomfortable in your body.
Accept weight fluctuations. If your clothes feel tight, remember that it may not mean you’ve gained weight. People experience normal, daily weight fluctuations. Water intake and weather changes can account for slight changes in weight too.
Investigate different clothing brands. Know which designers make clothes that fit your body shape naturally. Stick with those.
Choose fit, not size. Think more about how an article of clothing fits rather than its size. Remember, no one can see the label but you.
Highlight other areas. Spend more time accentuating other, more-visible parts of your body that you have more control over, such as your hair with a new style, your eyes or lips with makeup, or your neck with jewelry; buy colors that work well with your skin and eyes.
